Laboratory Analyses
At Blackbourn Geoconsulting we offer a range of laboratory analyses. Due to the nature of the techniques, some of these analyses are sub-contracted*, but, all interpretative work is undertaken in-house. Analyses available include:
Scanning electron microscope facility at the University of Edinburgh
- SEM Examination: Including EDS analysis and photomicrography (undertaken by Blackbourn Geoconsulting on a rented machine)
- XRD Analysis*: Whole rock and clay fraction, including preparation
- Heavy Mineral Analysis*: Point count of minerals separated by disaggregation, sieving and heavy liquid flotation. Includes decalcification if required
- Sieve Analysis: Poorly consolidated sand or silt. Includes sorting through six or more screens, weighing and plot of results, and stereomicroscopic examination of different size fractions
- Stereomicroscopy: Descriptions of rock chips or washed cuttings
